I get asked a lot about the privacy implications of new technologies, but sometimes the more important and relevant question is “does this even work?” Case in point: the use growing use of thermal imaging to monitor crowded spaces like churches and schools to see if an individual has a fever, a common sign of COVID-19 – and also many other health conditions. There are privacy concerns, yes, but as I told Recode, the efficacy of the technology itself is uncertain at best.
